The following article is amazing on so many levels. An off duty LEO in a personal vehicle takes police action against an individual unknown to her in another vehicle without backup for alleged traffic infractions. Thank goodness the individual she was going to take action against was not a bad guy with a gun or other weapon. It was just a retired police officer who has probably backed up many fellow officers including those from other departments. It was just a retired police officer who probably would put himself in harms way to protect the off duty officer if the off duty officer made a traffic stop with her personal vehicle only to find out the subject stopped does not like officers and is going to take this advantage of this off duty incident and wail away at her causing her physical harm.

But this is not the case. The off duty officer pursues the retired officer has him stopped by uniform personnel and takes police action against the off duty officer for alleged traffic infractions.

In the past I have suggested to associate members and others do not pull over for an unmarked vehicle with civilian clothed individuals getting out of the vehicle. CALL 911 and tell them you are being followed by an unmarked car with civilian dressed individual in the car. Request a mark police vehicle to meet you somewhere to ensure the vehicle following you is a unmarked police vehicle or in this case an off duty police officer in her personal vehicle. You do not know if this is a car jacking, robbery or worse is about to take place because you did stop for these civilian dressed individuals and now you have become a victim.

In regards to the sentencing of the officer, thank goodness a reasonable judge called it for what it is. How would you feel if you committed a coupe of traffic infractions, not misdemeanors or felonies, not disorderly persons or indictables and you were carted off to serve jail time after being stripped searched? Scary uh? But reality, unfortunately for this 23 year retired police officer.

There are so many disturbing things about this incident. To those who protect 24/7 just be careful out there, you never know who may be trying to hurt you in some shape or form. To the others, when in doubt call 911.

Lastly, Stay safe out there,
Robert
